Natural History Museum Wedding: Jen + Eric

It’s hard to imagine a more amazing backdrop for a wedding reception than LA’s very own Natural History Museum! Jen + Eric took advantage of the setting with a big, fun celebration full of incredible details + beautiful A-line wedding dresses + meaningful moments. I love how they were able to bring bits of the environment into the tablescapes in the form of nature-filled shadowboxes, dinosaur figurines + awesome found objects! And the textural, overgrown florals by Primary Petals are so crazy pretty! Here’s a bit more from the lovely bride:

We knew in order to enjoy our day fully, we had to make it a 2 day affair! We had our ceremony on a Thursday at the Wayfarers Chapel in Palos Verdes with 50 of our closest friends and family, with a celebration dinner after. Friday was spent relaxing by the pool at Terranea. Saturday was the reception at The Natural History Museum in LA. It included about 170 people and was more of a cocktail party feel. I have been in a lot of weddings, so I had plenty of time and experience to figure out exactly what I wanted. We had a destination wedding feel in our own city! Eric’s family was coming in from Illinois and Ohio, so we didn’t want just 5 minutes to spend with them at a reception. We basically got an entire weekend with family and friends. From the Converse groom’s cake, to Neon Nation – our AMAZING 80′s band, the whole weekend was SO us.

Thank you to Victor Sizemore for the gorgeous images + Kristeen LaBrot Events for the beautiful event design. And big congrats to the happy couple – we wish you all the best! Read the full post ...

Take One Summer Scorcher

by Lolly via Rock My Wedding
Summer Scorcher Themed Week At Rock My Wedding
Stay Cool 1

I’m hot and I don’t mean in a kick-ass, lip-pouting, boys-eat-your-heart-out kinda way. I mean in a slightly clammy, I can’t be bothered to do anything with my hair, I only want to wear a bikini state of affairs.

Don’t get me wrong I LOVE the heat and I’m also tickled by the fact that our fickle meteorologists are calling the current weather situation ‘a heatwave’. Funny, back when I was a wee one, this would just be a standard summer but perhaps that’s the mind playing tricks on me.

Any bride marrying in either June, July or August dreams of being blessed with glorious weather – I mean you don’t pay a premium for marrying at the peak of summer for nothing you know – but I think even the lucky couples of the last few weeks will be amazed at their own good fortune.

And so in homage to the sunshine, to the scorching days and the balmy nights, we’ve decided to dedicate this week to all things summer – a ‘Summer Scorcher’ themed week if you will.

To kick things off it seemed fitting to share an inspiration post with you – designed with the intention of helping you gorgeous lot with making your guests as comfortable as possible when things are HOT HOT HOT on your big day.  Read full post here.

Playing opposites

I don’t want to whinge about the weather but honestly typing in the dark in my northfacing bedroom at 3PM is really quite depressing. Whenever it’s sunny, I love to spend it outdoors running errands, shooting and doing everything I have been dying to do when it’s not raining. Whenever it’s raining all I like doing is rugging up in bed and reading a book or working in my studio. And since it’s been raining for as long as I can remember (I swear we have more rainy days in Melbourne than London), I’ve actually been very productive when it comes to designing and creating new headpieces. I’ve reached a record high of over 60 new designs ready to be shot and listed on kisforkani.etsy.com and after taking into account that each piece has been handmade, rainy days aren’t so bad after all – they certainly seem to create high levels of productivity at home. Given uni starts in a week, I’m glad to be able to make one more shop update before I have to devote myself to another semester’s worth of left brain exercise.

I’ve actually attempted to stop myself from working on weekends however after spending pre-3PM running around looking for strange macaron flavours to taste test in the rain, I’ve decided it was probably a more sane choice to spend the rest of the afternoon indoors on a blog post before running out the door again for dinner. So here’s to two cosy pieces I’ve been loving this Winter, photos taken of course on a day much less wet, cold and windy. A roomy jumper with a witty tagline even my boyfriend seems to understand and a pair of (impulsively purchased however always been on my mind) white skorts which surprisingly are super easy to match with Winter outfits. Except I must add for sanity’s sake that tights are highly recommended for days cooler than the day I chose to take these photos!

How to Add Peter to Your Wardrobe

By channeling some vital elements from Sir J.M.Barrie’s many legends of Peter Pan - which go even farther than the movies would show you! – you, too, can have a look fit for spending the day in Neverland.

Kensington Gardens

Peter-Pan-Kensington-Gardens-Bird-Tee
Product Information: Tee – Modcloth, Shorts – PacSun, Bracelet – Nordstrom, Purse – Dorothy Perkins, Necklace –Bloomingdales, Sandals – Asos.

The Little White Bird, an adult collection of stories Barrie wrote in 1902, included “Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens,” about a little boy, seven days old, who overhears his parents talking about his life when he grows up, and decides to fly away and live in Kensington Gardens with the fairies. This brief story was all the world got for introduction to the iconic character of Peter Pan, before Barrie released the play Peter and Wendy two years later.

Integrate aspects of Peter’s origins into your own look, by paying attention to elements of the origin story itself. An explanation for Peter’s first flight, attributed to how children are part bird when they are born, lays the foundation for the tee shirt, as well as the wing bracelet. The flowers and fairies of the gardens appear in a floral handbag and sandals, while destroyed shorts display the kind of damage only a young boy could inflict. A skull necklace plays on the practice that Peter used to dig graves for the children who got lost at night in the Gardens.

Dreaming Wedding Shooting

What Jackie Did… Picked A Winning Team

Cover

Well good afternoon RMW and all you beautiful brides and gorgeous grooms!
I have to start my first blog by thanking all you wonderful people who voted for us, we were totally shocked and touched that so many people supported us. For me, to have the chance to share our journey with you all is massively exciting… Ok and a tad scary but here we go, wish me luck lovelies! So, grab a cuppa and get comfy let’s recap and meet Team Curtis!

Our Special Story

Rewind to November 2012 we’re at our special place in Koh Lanta, Paul and I have been out for an amazing meal looking over the blue prom dresses. After a few cocktails we are wandering back to our resort when we stopped to look at some super cute hearts that had been drawn in the sand and to gaze at the stars. It was totally romantic and secluded just us, then before I knew it Paul was down in the sand on one knee asking me to be his wife! Lots of tears, jumps for joy and celebrating followed. Take note; do not celebrate with one too many cocktails when you are scheduled to go diving the next day – bad idea! View more ....

Aspen by Jenny Packham For A Pretty And Elegant South African Wedding
Morning guys n gals, and how be you today? It's not often we venture over to foreign shores for our weddings but today we're off to South Africa for the wedding of Audrey and James, which took place on 30 March 2013 at Lockestone Farm, outside the small town of Stanford in the Western Cape of South Africa.

Designer Audrey, who was a regular reader of Love My Dress whilst planning her wedding, looked completely elegant and graceful in her Aspen dress by Jenny Packham...

"I actually saw and fell in love with the Aspen gown by Jenny Packham when Kate Middleton wore a bespoke teal green version. I just knew I was going to get married in that dress one day.

It is an elegant vintage-inspired lace and satin gown and sums up my style completely, so when I found a shop sample for sale online, I decided to buy it then and there (a ballsy move, considering we weren’t even engaged yet!).  I loved everything about it. It was the only wedding dress I ever really looked at and the only one I could see myself getting married in.  It was love at first sight."

Turning Vintage Inspiration In To Modern Bridal Elegance, With Sally Lacock and Cherished Vintage Accessories
Anyone who reads this blog regularly and is familiar with my book will know that I've a big fondness for vintage inspired bridal wear that pays true respects to the aesthetic and fashions/styles of times gone by.  There are so many timeless and elegant styles that we can steal from the past to make our modern-day weddings look breathtakingly beautiful.

One of my favourite wedding dress designers who shares my fondness for vintage, is Sally Lacock.  London based Sally is renowned for creating vintage inspired bridal gowns made of  the finest French lace and sumptuous silk for today’s modern bride. She draws inspiration from the decadent days of the 1920’s and the artistic sensibility of Edwardian bohemia, through to the elegance and femininity of the 1950’s, and she does this in her own unique and inimitable way. I am totally in love with Sally's exquisite designs and love that fact that Sally pays so much respect to time-honoured skills when it comes to actually producing her garments.   This is a designer who really knows her stuff and has a huge passion for her craft - the kind of person you want to be designing your wedding dress.

These particular images really appeal to me for the sensitive portrayal of the modern day vintage inspired bride and I truly adore the way that Sally has teamed her gowns with the utterly beautiful creations of Cherished vintage wedding dresses.  That crown - someone really really needs to wear that on their wedding day and then send us all the photographs to feature - please! Darwin Northern Territory Engagement

Darwin Northern Territory Engagement Session by Mel Silva

You know what I can’t wait to see?  This darling duo’s wedding with vintage wedding dresses.  Because if their Big Day is even half as adorable as their engagement session happens to be, it’s going to be one epic dose of pretty.  Think smiles for miles, fun-filled frolicking and a whole lot of all caps HAPPY.  And the beautiful imagery captured by Mel Silva Photography?  Amazing.  See it all in the full gallery.

From Mel Silva Photography… The first two years of Nomikos & Despina’s relationship was tested by distance while Nomikos was studying in Queensland on the Gold Coast. Eventually Despina moved to the Gold Coast to study alongside him. After they both moved back to Darwin, Nomikos popped the question at sunrise on a bridge overlooking the ocean with a gorgeous Tiffany ring, which made the early morning wake up call of 5:30 am all worth it. Nomikos and Despina will be married in July this year and I can’t wait to photograph there rustic styled wedding!
